Former Red Sea records are now assigned to C. spilotoceps Schultz 1950. Habitat: marine. rivulatus, Cirrhites Valenciennes [A.] 1846:no p., Pl. 3 (fig. 1) [Voyage autour du monde sur la frégate "la Vénus"; ref. 6165] Galápagos Islands. Holotype (unique): MNHN A-5563 (dry). Type catalog: Bauchot & Desoutter 1989:12 [ref. 15502]. Dates to publication in plate; corresponding text published as Valenciennes 1855:309 [ref. 4504].
