Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-Pacific: Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Socotra (Yemen), Madagascar and Mascarenes (La RĂ©union, Mauritius, Rodriogues) east to Panama, north to southern Korea and southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe Island (Australia), Kermadec Islands and Rapa (French Polynesia); eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to Colombia, including Clipperton Island (France) and Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). Absent from Easter Island (Chile), Pitcairn Group, Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia) and Hawaiian Islands (U.S.A.). Habitat: brackish, marine.
