Paratypes: (7) USNM 96955 + 98242 (4 + 3, combined). Additional material: (125) ANSP, FMNH 62625 (1), USNM. Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:147 [ref. 13621] and Ibarra & Stewart 1987:25 [ref. 12367] but their material we regard as non-types. Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Persian Gulf, Socotra (Yemen), Madagascar and western Mascarenes (La Réunion) east to Line Islands (Kiribati), north to southern Korea and southern Japan, south to Jervis Bay (A.C.T., Australia) and New Caledonia. IUCN (2022): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
