Paratypes: (7) USNM 96955 + 98242 (4 + 3, combined). Additional material: (125) ANSP, FMNH 62625 (1), USNM. Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:147 [ref. 13621] and Ibarra & Stewart 1987:25 [ref. 12367] but their material we regard as non-types. Distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Persian Gulf, Socotra, Madagascar and Réunion (western Mascarenes) east to Line Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Jervis Bay (A.C.T., Australia) and New Caledonia. Habitat: marine.
