Distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, South Africa, Socotra, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Marquesas Islands and Gambier Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia), Lord Howe Island and Tonga; eastern Mediterranean Sea (Red Sea immigrant). Habitat: marine.
