Distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius (Mascarenes) and Maldives east to Gambier Islands, north to southern Japan and Ryukyu Islands and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Red Sea and Indian Ocean as the subspecies flavescens, but misidentified, subspecies is still undescribed [ref. 34402; R. Fricke, pers. comm., 11/18]. Habitat: marine.
