triocellatus, Samariscus Woods [L. P.] in Gosline & Brock 1960:151, 323 [Handbook of Hawaiian fishes; ref. 28182] Coral head in eastern end of lagoon, Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands, western Pacific, depth 20-25 feet. Holotype: USNM 141767. Paratypes: USNM 141768 (3), 164421 (1), 167246 (1). Appeared first in Gosline & Brock 1960 on Wood's manuscript. Also appeared as Woods in Schultz et al. 1966, p. 66, Fig. 149 [ref. 5366]. It is possible that the short description on p. 151 was not composed by Woods, but we feel authorship should be Woods as consistently seen; it appears that Gosline and Brock saw a manuscript that appeared later in the citation given by them p. 323. Types are taken from the 1966 publication. •Valid as Samariscus triocellatus Woods 1960 [usually dated to 1966] -- (Sakamoto 1984:212 [ref. 5273], Heemstra 1986:865 [ref. 5660], Quéro et al. 1989:112 [ref. 12826], Randall et al. 1990:450 [ref. 15987], Hensley 1993:372 [ref. 22369], Amaoka et al. 1997:94 [ref. 22730], Randall et al. 1997:450 [ref. 25919], Anderson et al. 1998:29 [ref. 23611], Myers 1999:279 [ref. 23965], Randall 1999:29 [ref. 25829], Allen 2000:94 [ref. 37268], Amaoka in Randall & Lim 2000:645 [ref. 25122], Randall & Earle 2000:21 [ref. 25806], Hensley 2001:3877 [ref. 26313], Hutchins 2001:46 [ref. 25847], Allen & Adrim 2003:63 [ref. 26830], Matsuura et al. in Kimura & Matsuura 2003:215 [ref. 27510], Senou et al. 2004:2 [ref. 27541], Randall et al. 2004:31 [ref. 27624], Heemstra et al. 2004:3331 [ref. 27945], Randall 2005:616 [ref. 28239], Mundy 2005:521 [ref. 28379], Hoese & Bray 2006:1840 [ref. 29000] dated 1966, Randall 2007:465 [ref. 30952], Kawai et al. 2008:20 [ref. 29524] dated 1966, Voronina 2009:579 [ref. 33679], Kawai et al. 2011:65 [ref. 31689] dated 1966, Allen & Erdmann 2012:1049 [ref. 31980], Diaz de Astaoloa et al. 2014:245 [ref. 33164], Fricke et al. 2014:190 [ref. 33932], Delrieu-Trottin et al. 2015:8 [ref. 33988] dated 1966, Voronina & Suzumoto 2017:8 [ref. 35132], Fricke et al. 2018:372 [ref. 35805], Pinault et al. 2019:387 [ref. 36447], Hensley & Amaoka 2022:366 [ref. 40233], Ummath et al. 2024:[9] [ref. 41632]).
