Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, aint Brandon's Shoals (Cargados Carajos) and Mascarenes (Mauritius) east to Guam and Society Islands (French Polynesia), north to Kochi Prefecture (Japan), south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Former Red Sea records are now assigned to S. steinitzi Klausewitz & Frøiland 1970. Habitat: marine.
