The name loriculus is a noun in apposition. Based on a single specimen of 2.5 inches taken out of the stomach of a serranid. Description based on painting reproduced in Pl. 40 (fig. Distribution: Western and central Pacific: Philippines and Papua New Guinea east to Hawaiian Islands (U.S.A.) , Line Islands (Kiribati) and to Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia) and Pitcairn Group, south to New Caledonia, Tonga and Gambier Islands (French Polynesia). Habitat: marine.
