Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Socotra (Yemen), Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius, Rodrgues) east to Line Islands (Kiribati), Marquesas Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago (French Polynesia), north to southern Korea, Kagoshima Prefecture (southern Japan) and Ogasawara Islands (Japan), south to Australia, Lord Howe Island (Australia), northern New Zealand, Kermadec Islands and Tonga. Habitat: marine.
