Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: western Indonesia east to Hawaiian Islands (U.S.A., as a waif only) and Tuamotu Archipelago (French Polynesia), north to Ryukyu Islands (Japan), south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. IUCN (2014): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
