Paratypes: BMNH 1915.10.25.3 (1); CAS 23510 (2); GCRL 17061-62 (1, 1); NMW 40277-78 (1, 1); RMNH 18389 (1); SMF 8124 (1); USNM 226447-52 (2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1). •Synonym of Doryrhamphus excisus Kaup 1856, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Dawson 1985:60 [ref. 6541], Randall et al. 1990:73 [ref. 15987], Goren & Dor 1994:19 [ref. 25356], Randall 1995:101 [ref. 22896], Thomson et al. 2000:65 [ref. 25640], Randall 2005:107 [ref. 28239], Hamilton et al. 2016:Supplement 4 [ref. 35615]). •Valid as Doryrhamphus abbreviatus Dawson 1981 -- (Golani & Fricke 2018:49 [ref. 36273], Moots 2022:449 [ref. 39722]). Current status: Valid as Doryrhamphus abbreviatus Dawson 1981. Syngnathidae: Nerophinae. Distribution: Red Sea; northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden. Habitat: marine.
