Perhaps independent of, and secondarily preoccupied by Blennius niger Valenciennes 1836. Also appeared in Kossmann & Räuber 1877:21, Pisces Pl. 2 (fig. 8) [ref. 14246]. •Synonym of Atrosalarias fuscus (Rüppell 1838) -- (Springer & Smith-Vaniz 1968:4 [ref. 36386]). •In genus Atrosalarias -- (Smith-Vaniz & Springer 1971:58 [ref. 4145], Williams & Springer 2022:337 [ref. 39951]). 2°Homonym.
