Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa (Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya), Seychelles, Madagascar and western Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius) east to Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia), north to Kagoshima Prefecture (southern Japan), south to Australia, New Caledonia, northern New Zealand and Tonga. Habitat: marine.

Holotype: USNM 99505. •Synonym of Cyprinocirrhites polyactis (Bleeker 1874) -- (Randall 1963:443 [ref. 3599]). Current status: Synonym of Cyprinocirrhites polyactis (Bleeker 1874). Cirrhitidae. Habitat: marine.

ui, Cyprinocirrhites Tanaka [S.] 1917:268 [Dobutsugaku Zasshi = Zoological Magazine Tokyo v. 29; ref. 4332] Off Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. Holotype (unique): ZUMT 55053. Species originally published in Japanese in above reference, later illustrated and described in more detail in English and Japanese in Tanaka 1917:503, Pl. 137 (fig. 384) [ref. 6073]. •Synonym of Cyprinocirrhites polyactis (Bleeker 1874) -- (Randall 1963:443 [ref. 3599], Allen et al. 2006:1346 [ref. 29090]). Current status: Synonym of Cyprinocirrhites polyactis (Bleeker 1874). Cirrhitidae. Habitat: marine.
