Blennius rostatus appeared as a manuscript name of Solander mentioned in the synonymy of Blennechis filamentosus Valenciennes 1836; Bleeker 1857:62 [ref. 356] used Solander's name as the valid one so that makes the name available from 1836 with authorship as Valenciennes.
