Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Mascarenes (Mauritius and Rodrigues) and Maldives east to Hawaiian Islands (U.S.A.), Line Islands (Kiribati) and Gambier Islands (French Polynesia), north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Habitat: marine.

shimoniensis, Callyodon Smith [J. L. B.] 1953:622, Pl. 15-16 [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 12) v. 6 (no. 68) (art. 58); ref. 12718] Shimoni, Kenya, western Indian Ocean. Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI]. Paratypes: (1) not researched. Conditionally proposed in the synonymy of Scarus muricatus Valenciennes 1840, but technically available (before 1961); holotype as "regional type". •Synonym of Bolbometopon muricatum (Valenciennes 1840) -- (Randall & Bruce 1983:6 [ref. 5412], Parenti & Randall 2000:51 [ref. 24943], Ogihara et al. 2010:44 [ref. 31554]). Current status: Synonym of Bolbometopon muricatum (Valenciennes 1840). Labridae. Habitat: marine.
