Habitat: marine.

melanotaenia, Callechelys Bleeker [P.] 1864:66 [Atlas ichthyologique des Indes Orientales Néêrlandaises v. 4; ref. 4860] Ambon Island, Molucca Islands, Indonesia. Holotype: RMNH 7180. Bleeker specimens: BMNH 1867.11.28.291 (1) Ambon. Apparently dates to Dec. 1864 [accompanying Pl. 193 to 1865].
