bispinosus, Holacanthus Günther [A.] 1860:48, 516 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 2; ref. 1963] Ambon Island, Molucca Islands, Indonesia. Lectotype: BMNH 1858.4.21.461. Paralectotypes: (3). Replacement name for Holacanthus diacanthus Bleeker 1857, secondarily preoccupied by Chaetodon diacanthus Boddaert 1772. Lectotype selected for diacanthus by Fricke 1999:347 [ref. 24106] also established a lectotype for bispinosus. Fricke 1999:347 [ref. 24106] wrongly treats bispinosus as valid over the secondary homonym diacanthus, but a secondary homonym replaced before 1961 is objectively invalid. •Synonym of Centropyge diacanthus (Bleeker 1857) -- (Fricke 1999:347 [ref. 24106]). •Valid as Centropyge bispinosus (Günther 1860) -- (Allen 1980:249 [ref. 22764], Araga in Masuda et al. 1984:189 [ref. 6441], Smith & Heemstra 1986:624 [ref. 5714], Winterbottom et al. 1989:44 [ref. 13251], Randall et al. 1990:238 [ref. 15987], Francis 1993:163 [ref. 25479], Francis & Randall 1993:131 [ref. 20996], Kuiter 1993:230 [ref. 23929], Allen 1997:154 [ref. 23977], Kuiter 1997:232 [ref. 25488], Randall et al. 1997:238 [ref. 25919], Myers 1999:170 [ref. 23965], Johnson 1999:740 [ref. 25471], Allen 2000:89 [ref. 37268], Pyle in Randall & Lim 2000:624 [ref. 25122], Laboute & Grandperrin 2000:306 [ref. 25191], Allen 2000:107 [ref. 25868], Hutchins 2001:265 [ref. 25841], Hutchins 2001:36 [ref. 25847], Heemstra et al. 2004:3322 [ref. 27945], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:281 [ref. 28072], Randall 2005:332 [ref. 28239], Mundy 2005:403 [ref. 28379], Allen et al. 2006:1303 [ref. 29090], Shen et al. 2012:417 [ref. 31830], Allen & Erdmann 2012:545 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2013:263 [ref. 32706], Fricke et al. 2014:105 [ref. 33932]). •Valid as Centropyge bispinosa (Günther 1860) -- (Nakabo 2000:903 [ref. 25182], Pyle 2001:3273 [ref. 26118], Nakabo 2002:903 [ref. 26193], Allen & Adrim 2003:43 [ref. 26830], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S112 [ref. 27377], Myers & Donaldson 2003:630 [ref. 27495], Adrim et al. 2004:122 [ref. 27715], Fricke et al. 2009:74 [ref. 30213], Fricke et al. 2018:241 [ref. 35805], Fricke et al. 2019:195 [ref. 36673], Fujiwara et al. 2020:35 [ref. 38631], Tea et al. 2020:3 [ref. 37258], Durville et al. 2021:313 [ref. 38802], Heemstra 2022:435 [ref. 39850]).
