Habitat: marine.

Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] St. Christina Island, Waitaho [Vaitahu, Tahuata Island, Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, South Pacific]. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1979.6.13.7. Based on description and painting in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). Forster painting reproduced in Randall & Wheeler 1991:762, Pl 1 (fig. a) [ref. 15994]. As Percam urodetam on p. 333, Latinized in index under Bodianus as Perca urodeta, a variety of B. miniatus. Lichtenstein (1844:221 [ref. 17531] in footnote) treats as a synonym of "Bodianus miniatus Bl. Schn. p. 332" and as "Serranus urodelis [sic] Cuv. Val. II. p. 227". Author given as 'Schn.'
