The alleged holotype is a specimen of Cephalopholis urodeta and differs form the description of De Vis which is of Cephalopholis miniata (Forsskål 1775) suggesting a specimen switch (Randall & Heemstra 1991:55 [ref. 19601]). •Questionably a synonym of Cephalopholis miniata (Forsskål 1775) -- (Heemstra & Randall 1993:49 [ref. 21042], Kottelat 2013:326 [ref. 32989], Parenti & Randall 2020:54 [ref. 37354]). Lichtenstein (1844:221 [ref. 17531] in footnote) treats as a synonym of "Bodianus miniatus Bl. Schn. p. 332" and as "Serranus urodelis [sic] Cuv. Val. II. p. 227". Author given as 'Schn.'
