Commerson material: MNHN 0000-9243 (skin). Type catalog: Bauchot & Desoutter 1987:95 [ref. 12478] -- based on a drawing (and not the Commerson specimen). Secondarily preoccupied in Cheilodipterus by Perca lineatus (Forsskål 1775); but see Fricke 1999:233 [ref. 24106]. Genus misspelled Chelodipterus on p. 543. Considered by authors as a secondary homonym of Perca lineata of Forsskål 1775, which is, however, not a species independent from Perca lineata Linnaeus 1758 but a misidentification (see Fricke 1999:233 [ref. 24106], Fricke 2008:30 [ref. 30182], Fricke et al. 2009:51 [30213]).
