bipallidus, Callyodon Smith [J. L. B.] 1956:936 [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 12) v. 8 (no. 96) (art. 107); ref. 12527] Natal to Malindi, Zanzibar, Pemba, Mafia, Aldabra to Seychelles, western Indian Ocean. Syntypes: (several localities) SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 67 (1). Also described as new in Smith 1956:5, Pl. 41 (fig. D) as Xanothon bipallidus. Parenti & Randall 2000:53 [ref. 24943] treated both species as independent, but that is not true. Dates are very close in time, and further research may be needed. A holotype is established for the description as Xanothon bipallidus but was not located in 1956; no type was established in ref. 12527; the holotype in ref. 4104 would make the best lectotype if the description above was first.
