Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied by Halichoeres bimaculatus Rüppell 1835 when both are in Halichoeres, replaced by Halichoeres aestuaricola Bussing 1972. Secondary homonym rejected after 1960, so the senior homonym has to be reinstated when both species are in different genera [ICZN Art. 59.4]. •Valid as Iridio bimaculata Wilson 1916 -- (Kuiter 2010:219 [ref. 35285] as bimaculatus). •Synonym of Halichoeres aestuaricola Bussing 1972 -- (Bussing 1987:95 [ref. 21800], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:398 [ref. 24550], Parenti & Randall 2000:19 [ref. 24943], Fricke et al. 2024:547 [ref. 41622]). 2°Homonym.
