Neotype designated by Springer & Williams 1994:121 [ref. 21878]. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). •Objective synonym of Istiblennius edentulus (Forster & Schneider 1801) after neotype designation -- (Springer & Williams 1994:103 [ref. 21878] but dated to 1844, Kottelat 2013:382 [ref. 32989]).
