chryserydros, Mullus Lacepède [B. G. E.] (ex Commerson) 1801:384, 406 [Histoire naturelle des poissons (Lacepède) v. 3; ref. 2710] Mauritius, Mascarenes, southwestern Indian Ocean. Neotype: MNHN A-5702. Non-types: ZMB 608 [ex MNHN] (1) Mauritius. Type catalog: Bauchot et al. 1985:13 [ref. 20735] but with no type. Based on the "Faun. Borb. No. 190. Mullus rubens ..." of Commerson 1767-1771:A-H [102-109] [ref. 41292]. The putative holotype indicated by authors (MNHN A-3502) cannot be attributed to Commerson with certainty, and is based on another species, Parupeneus ciliatus (Lacepède 1801). Neotype selected by Bauchot et al. 1985:5 [ref. 20735] for Mullus cyclostomus Lacepède 1801; as Mullus chryserydros Lacepède 1801 was based on the same specimen, it is also the neotype for that species. Mullus chryserythrus is a misspelling. Upeneus chryserythrus Günther 1873 [ref. 14186] is based on this and other refs. •Valid as Parupeneus chryserydros (Lacepède 1801) -- (Kyushin et al. 1977:172 [ref. 19756], Chen et al. 1997:112 [ref. 26476] dated 1802). •Synonym of Pseudupeneus cyclostomus (Lacepède 1801) -- (Dor & Ben-Tuvia in Dor 1984:162 [ref. 29757], Ben-Tuvia & Kissil 1988:5 [ref. 12819]). •Synonym of Parupeneus cyclostomus (Lacepède 1801) -- (Lachner 1960:29 [ref. 23973], Randall et al. 1990:210 [ref. 15987], Randall 1995:240 [ref. 22896], Fricke 1999:313 [ref. 24106], Randall in Randall & Lim 2000:622 [ref. 25122], Randall 2001:3188 [ref. 26109], Randall 2004:22 [ref. 28086], Randall 2005:296 [ref. 28239], Mundy 2005:390 [ref. 28379], Fricke & Kulbicki 2006:336 [ref. 28867], Hoese & Bray 2006:1268 [ref. 29000], Randall 2007:263 [ref. 30952], Golani & Fricke 2018:102 [ref. 36273], Uiblein & Randall 2022:360 [ref. 39855]). •Synonym of Parupeneus ciliatus (Lacepède 1801) based on identity of holotype -- (R. Fricke, pers. comm., Aug. 2024). Current status: Synonym of Parupeneus ciliatus (Lacepède 1801). Mullidae. Habitat: marine.
