Type catalog: Bauchot 1967:30 [ref. 20734] with a holotype that becomes the lectotype since it was not known how many specimens were originally included (see Springer & Williams 1994:66-67 [ref. 21878] for nomenclatural comments). Misspelled Salarias percophthalmus by Swainson 1839:274 [ref. 4304]. Misspelled Salarias periopthalmus by Waite 1899:545 [ref. 17824].
