subarmatus, Balistes Gray [J. E.] 1831:no page number, Pl. 90 (fig. 3) [Illustrations of Indian zoology; ref. 1878] Published about 27 July 1831. Appeared as gubarmatus on plate but as submaratus in list of figures, as gubarmatus (sic) in Sawyer 1953:51 [ref. 6842]. The plate apparently preceded the list of plates, so action by the ICZN might be needed to use subarmatus over gubarmatus. Balistes niger Park 1797 is a preoccupied name of the species currently known as Sufflamen chrysopterum (Bloch & Schneider 1801) (see Günther 1870:218 [ref. 1995]). •Synonym of Balistes niger Park 1797 -- (Wheeler 1958:245 [ref. 13434] dated 1794). •Synonym of Sufflamen chrysopterum (Bloch & Schneider 1801) -- (Parenti 2021:660 [ref. 38921]). 1°Homonym.
