Paratypes: AMNH 37904 (2); BMNH 1978.10.31.28-32 (5); MFRU (4, 1 skeleton); MRAC 78-32-P-9-10 (1, 1); QVMS 3800 (2); SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 8335 (2); USNM 218881 (2). Described as a species and subspecies. •Valid as Lethrinops mylodon Eccles & Lewis 1979 -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:130 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:239 [ref. 20944], Ngatunga & Snoeks 2003:128 [ref. 26763], Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:285 [ref. 28117], Konings 2016:397 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Lethrinops mylodon Eccles & Lewis 1979. Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.

Smith Institute of Ichthyology No. 38; ref. 6939] Nkhata Bay, Lake Malawi [Lake Nyasa], southeastern Africa, 11°36'S, 34°18'E, depth about 50 fathoms. Holotype: BMNH 1978.10.31.33. Paratypes: MFRU (1). •Synonym of Lethrinops mylodon Eccles & Lewis 1979, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Maréchal 1991:239 [ref. 20944]). Current status: Synonym of Lethrinops mylodon Eccles & Lewis 1979. Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Habitat: freshwater.
