Beagle; ref. 2344] Chonos Archipelago in Lowe's Harbor, south of Chiloé, off Chile, western coast of South America. Holotype (unique): ?BMNH 1917.7.14.54. Objectively invalid; regarded as preoccupied by Gobius ophiocephalus Pallas 1814 [regarded as same as ophicephalus, Art. 58 of the Code], replaced by and objective synonym of Ophiogobius jenynsi Hoese 1976. •Wrongly treated as valid as Ophiogobius ophicephalus (Jenyns 1842) -- (López et al. 1996:55 [ref. 23681]). •In the synonymy of Ophiogobius jenynsi Hoese 1976 -- (Parenti 2021:204 [ref. 38603]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Ophiogobius jenynsi Hoese 1976. Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Habitat: marine.

Replacement name for Gobius ophicephalus Jenyns 1842 [misspelled by Hoese as ophiocephalus], but still preoccupied by Gobius ophiocephalus Pallas 1811 [regarded as same spelling based on Art. 58 of the Code]. •Valid as Ophiogobius jenynsi Hoese 1976 -- (Pequeño 1989:66 [ref. 14125], Stepien 1990:600 [ref. 19879], Van Tassell 2011:155 [ref. 31732], Parenti 2021:204 [ref. 38603], Hooker 2025:5 [ref. 41931]). Replacement Name. Current status: Valid as Ophiogobius jenynsi Hoese 1976. Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Southeastern Pacific: Perun south to Chile. IUCN (2025): Not Assessed. Habitat: brackish, marine.
