Paratypes: BMNH 1974.7.5.2-3 (2); YPM ICH; plus 46 additional paratypes to be deposted in BMNH and USNM. Described in part from Oliver manuscript (thesis, 1984) and new material; authorship technically might also involve Eccles and Trewavas. •Valid as Otopharynx lithobates Oliver 1989 -- (Maréchal 1991:349 [ref. 20944], Cleaver et al. 2009:166 [ref. 30418], Konings 2016:161 [ref. 34521], Oliver 2018:195 [ref. 36257]). Current status: Valid as Otopharynx lithobates Oliver 1989. Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.

Paratypes: BMNH 1990.4.9.29-34 (6). •Valid as Otopharynx walteri Konings 1990 -- (Maréchal 1991:351 [ref. 20944]). •Synonym of Otopharynx lithobates Oliver 1989 -- (Cleaver et al. 2009:166 [ref. 30418], Konings 2016:162 [ref. 34521] but a valid subspecies as described). Current status: Synonym of Otopharynx lithobates Oliver 1989. Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
