Holotype: MNHN 1987-1474. Paratypes: MNHN 1987-1472 (4), 1987-1475 (2); MGS 3494/1987 (2). •Synonym of Cichlasoma coeruleus (Stawikowski & Werner 1987) -- (Conkel 1993:152 [ref. 22949]). •Synonym of Paraneetroplus gibbiceps (Steindachner 1864) -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:641 [ref. 27061], Paepke et al. 2014:55 [ref. 33351]). •Synonym of Theraps gibbiceps (Steindachner 1864) -- (Miller et al. 2006:373 [ref. 28615]). •Valid as Paraneetroplus omonti Allgayer 1988 -- (Burgess 2000:56 [ref. 24818], Říčan et al. 2016:46 [ref. 34357], Fricke et al. 2024:397 [ref. 41622], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2025:suppl.
