Current status: Valid as Symphysodon discus Heckel 1840. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: lower Rio Negro, Rio Ururum, Rio Nhamundá and Rio Abacaxis basins, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
