Current status: Valid as Varicus vespa (Hastings & Bortone 1981). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: northeastern Gulf of Mexico (U.S.A.). IUCN (2015): Least Concern (as Chriolepis vespa). Habitat: marine.
