F.] 1874:35, Pl. 5 (fig. 21) [Izvestiia Imperatorskago Obschchestva Liubitelei Estestvozaniia, Antropologii i Etnografii v. 11; ref. 2596] Darmut stream, tributary of Kizil-Su River, Upper Amu Darya River basin, Afghanistan. Lectotype: ZMMU P-833. Paralectotypes: BMNH uncat. (1, stuffed), BMNH uncat (skin in bottle); ZMMU P-833a (1), P-1871 (1); none at ZIN. Type catalog: Svetovidova 1978:256 [ref. 9011], Vasil'eva et al. 2001:38-39 [ref. 25714]. Lectotype selected by Salmanov & Dorofeyeva 1990:818 [ref. 20193]. •Synonym of Salmo trutta Linnaeus 1758, but a valid subspecies oxianus Kessler 1874 -- (Berg 1948:258 [ref. 12882], Dorofeeva 1998:442 [ref. 24680], Salmanov & Dorofeyeva 1990:817 [ref. 20193]). •Listed -- (Kottelat 1997:143 [ref. 22952]). •Valid as Salmo oxianus Kessler 1874 -- (Schöffmann 2021:226 [ref. 38997], Segherloo et al. 2021:10 [ref. 39584], Çiçek et al. 2023:43 [ref. 40326]). Current status: Valid as Salmo oxianus Kessler 1874. Salmonidae: Salmoninae. Distribution: North Asia: Amu Darya River basin (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan). Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
