Holotype: ZMUC P9031. Paratypes: CAS-SU 18734 (1), ZMUC P9032-33 (2). Type catalog: Nielsen 1974:85 [ref. 9588]. •Valid as Diplecogaster megalops Briggs 1955 -- (Briggs 1986:379 [ref. 5643], Hofrichter 1995:151 [ref. 30502], Hofrichter & Patzner 1997:21 [ref. 23741], Fricke et al. 2015:6 [ref. 33962] once as melagops, Bilecenoğlu et al. 2017:210 [ref. 35501], Fricke & Wirtz 2017:6 [ref. 35696], Briggs 2022:440 [ref. 39965], Fricke & Wirtz 2023:7 [ref. 40196]). Current status: Valid as Diplecogaster megalops Briggs 1955. Gobiesocidae: Lepadogastrinae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) endemic. Habitat: marine.
