australis, Tomicodon fasciatus Briggs [J. C.] 1955:67, Fig. 92 [Stanford Ichthyological Bulletin v. 6; ref. 637] São Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Holotype: USNM 88042. Paratypes: CAS-SU 17835 (2); USNM 87803 (1), 87799-03 (1, 1, 1, 11, 1), 163653 [ex 88042] (1). •Synonym of Tomicodon fasciatus (Peters 1860), but a valid subspecies -- (Johnson & Greenfield 1983:39 [ref. 28991]). •Valid as Tomicodon australis Briggs 1955 -- (Williams & Tyler 2003:4 [ref. 27287], Carvalho-Filho 2023:87 [ref. 40480]). Current status: Valid as Tomicodon australis Briggs 1955. Gobiesocidae: Gobiesocinae. Distribution: Southwestern Atlantic: Espírito Santo to Santa Catarina (Brazil) endemic. Habitat: marine.
