Holotype (unique): BMNH 1890.9.25.14. Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied in Belone by Belone capensis G├╝nther 1866, replaced by Belone megalolepis Mees 1962, but under Art. 59.4 of the Code the older name can be reinstated. •Valid as Petalichthys capensis Regan 1904 -- (Collette 1986:386 [ref. 5647], Collette 2003:3 [ref. 27306], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:126 [ref. 28072], Collette 2022:375 [ref. 39718]). 2┬░Homonym. Current status: Valid as Petalichthys capensis Regan 1904. Belonidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: False Bay to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
