capensis, Petalichthys Regan [C. T.] 1904:129 [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 7) v. 14 (no. 80) (art. 16); ref. 12514] Port Elizabeth, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1890.9.25.14. Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied in Belone by Belone capensis Günther 1866, replaced by Belone megalolepis Mees 1962, but under Art. 59.4 of the Code the older name can be reinstated. •Valid as Petalichthys capensis Regan 1904 -- (Collette 1986:386 [ref. 5647], Collette 2003:3 [ref. 27306], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:126 [ref. 28072], Collette 2022:375 [ref. 39718]). 2°Homonym. Current status: Valid as Petalichthys capensis Regan 1904. Belonidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: False Bay to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
