Non-types: MNHN 0299 [ex USNM] (1). Type catalog: Bertin & Estève 1950:37 [ref. 19576]. Appeared first as above on 4 May; then in Ayres 1855:47 [ref. 159]. Monod 1973:282 [ref. 7193] lists a syntype at MNHN. •Apparently preoccupied by Gasterosteus serratus Forster 1794. •Synonym of Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus 1758, subspecies aculeatus -- (Okada 1961:605 [ref. 6363]). •Synonym of Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus 1758 -- (Monod 1973:282 [ref. 7193], Denys et al. 2022:397 [ref. 40085]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus 1758. Gasterosteidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
