B.] 1880:346 [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 3 (no. 165); ref. 1834] Off northeastern U.S.A., 40°02'54"N, 70°23'40"W, Fish Hawk station 871, depth 115 fathoms. Holotype (unique): USNM 26001 [not 26007] lost. Original genus should have been Macrourus. •Synonym of Coelorhynchus coelorhynchus [sic] (Risso 1810) -- (Marshall 1973:293 [ref. 7194]). •Synonym of Coelorinchus coelorhincus (Risso 1810), but a valid subspecies carminatus (Goode 1880) -- (Arai in Uyeno et al. 1983:215 [ref. 14275], Geistdoerfer in Whitehead et al. 1986:656 [ref. 13676] as Coelorhynchus coelorhynchus, McAllister 1990:122 [ref. 14674] as Coelorhinchus coelorhynchus, Klein-MacPhee in Collette & Klein-MacPhee 2002:212 [ref. 26158] as Caelorinchus caelorhincus and a valid subspecies, Lasso-Alcalá et al. 2005:176 [ref. 28938]). •Valid as Caelorinchus carminatus (Goode 1880) -- (Menezes & Figueiredo in Menezes et al. 2003:60 [ref. 27192]). •Synonym of Coelorinchus caelorinchus (Risso 1810). •Valid as Coelorinchus aff. carminatus -- (Melo et al. 2010:32 [ref. 30775]). Current status: Synonym of Coelorinchus caelorhincus (Risso 1810). Macrouridae. Distribution: Western Atlantic. Habitat: marine.
