Holotype (unique): RMNH 1631. Original as ashanteënsis. Holotype figured by Boeseman 1963:Pl. 2 (fig. 4) [ref. 21734]. •Synonym of Mugil cephalus Linnaeus 1758, but a valid subspecies -- (Trewavas 1973:568 [ref. 7201], Ben-Tuvia in Whitehead et al. 1986:1203 [ref. 13677]). •Synonym of Mugil cephalus Linnaeus 1758 -- (Thomson 1986:348 [ref. 6215], Thomson 1990:859 [ref. 19180], Kottelat 1997:158 [ref. 22952], Thomson 1997:485 [ref. 23428], Whitfield et al. 2012:xx [ref. 32710], Kottelat 2013:282 [ref. 32989], Harrison 2016:2105 [ref. 34599]). Current status: Synonym of Mugil cephalus Linnaeus 1758. Mugilidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
