Spelled mixtys by Bloch & Schneider 1801:267 [ref. 471], corrected in Corrigenda, p. 575. See Opinion 1954 in June 2000 in which bimaculatus is established as a cichlid and mixtus becomes the type species of the labrid genus Labrus. Neotype designated by Kullander 1997:113 [ref. 24551].
