castelnaui, Opistognathus Bleeker [P.] 1859:238 [Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch IndiĆ« v. 20 (no. 2); ref. 14019] Bulucomba, Makassar, Sulawesi, Indonesia. Lectotype: RMNH 26979 [ex RMNH 15186]. Bleeker specimens: RMNH 26926 (1). Available by indication; based on Opistognathus sonneratii of Bleeker 1851:221 [ref. 330] (not of Valenciennes 1836). Appeared 3 times in 1859-60 (as above, in ref. 14028, Bleeker 1860:450 and in ref. 379, Bleeker 1860:45); earliest apparently is ref. 14019. •Valid as Opistognathus castelnaui Bleeker 1859 -- (Kyushin et al. 1982:183 [ref. 19754], Smith-Vaniz 1983:6 [ref. 8211], Yoshino in Masuda et al. 1984:200 [ref. 6441], Smith-Vaniz 1999:2589 [ref. 24833], Nakabo 2000:742 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:742 [ref. 26001], Allen & Adrim 2003:34 [ref. 26830], Hoese & Bray 2006:1074 [ref. 29000], Smith-Vaniz & Allen 2007:37 [ref. 29354], Smith-Vaniz 2009:75 [ref. 30149], Allen & Erdmann 2012:352 [ref. 31980], Hiramatsu & Endo 2013:19 [ref. 32573], Hibino et al. 2016:33 [ref. 35047], Sasaki in Motomura et al. 2021:22 [ref. 38121], Smith-Vaniz 2023:44 [ref. 40049]). Current status: Valid as Opistognathus castelnaui Bleeker 1859. Opistognathidae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Malaysia and Indonesia east to Philippines and Taiwan, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to eastern Australia. Habitat: marine.
