truncatus, Blennius Forster [J. R.] in Bloch & Schneider 1801:172 [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Tahiti, Society Islands. Neotype: USNM 292529. Appeared first as a manuscript name mentioned under Blennius edentulus Forster & Schneider 1801 [ref. 471]; regarded as a name published in synonymy, and validated back to Forster & Schneider in Bloch & Schneider 1801 by publication in an available way in Lichtenstein 1844 (p. 231 [ref. 17531]). Neotype designated by Springer & Williams 1994:121 [ref. 21878]. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). •Objective synonym of Istiblennius edentulus (Forster & Schneider 1801) after neotype designation -- (Springer & Williams 1994:103 [ref. 21878] but dated to 1844, Kottelat 2013:382 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Istiblennius edentulus (Forster & Schneider 1801). Blenniidae: Salariinae. Habitat: marine.
