stigmaticus, Gobius De Vis [C. W.] 1884:686 [Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales v. 9 (pt 3); ref. 17383] Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Lectotype: AMS I.358 (smaller specimen). Paralectotypes: AMS I.358 (1 of 2), ?I.361 (2). Type catalog: Koumans 1940:160-161 [ref. 2676]. Lectotype designated by: Larson 2001:189 [ref. 25522]. Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied in Gobius by Smaragdus stigmaticus Poey 1860, replaced by Mugilogobius devisi McCulloch & Ogilby 1919. If devisi is not in current use and is not considered to be in the same genus as Smaragdus stigmaticus Poey 1860, then stigmaticus can continue in use. •Valid as Mugilogobius stigmaticus (De Vis 1884) -- (Johnson 1999:749 [ref. 25471], Larson 2001:185 [ref. 25522], Larson & Murdy 2001:3601 [ref. 26293], Hoese & Larson 2006:1666 [ref. 29097]). 2┬░Homonym. Current status: Valid as Mugilogobius stigmaticus (De Vis 1884). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Distribution: Australia. Habitat: marine.
