Neotype: NMNZ P.15419. Authorship follows Fricke 1994:17 [ref. 21827]. Neotype designated by Fricke 1994:362 [ref. 21827]. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). •Valid as Gilloblennius tripennis (Forster 1801) -- (Hardy 1986:147 [ref. 6139], Paulin et al. 1989:219 [ref. 24556], Paulin & Roberts 1992:84 [ref. 24625], Fricke 1994:358 [ref. 21827], Fricke 1997:575 [ref. 23339], Fricke 2009:33 [ref. 30394], Patzner et al. 2009:446 [ref. 30396], Stewart & Clements 2015:1512 [ref. 34299]). Current status: Valid as Gilloblennius tripennis (Forster 1801). Tripterygiidae: Tripterygiinae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: New Zealand region. Habitat: marine.
