Neotype desitnated by Kimura et al. 2003:226 [ref. 27212]; original types lost except for one paratype [ABE 16976, now YCM-P 35800] in poor condition and unidentifiable. •Valid as Leiognathus aureus Abe & Haneda 1972 -- (Jones 1985:571 [ref. 21842], Hutchins 2001:33 [ref. 25847], Woodland et al. 2001:2800 [ref. 26095], Kimura et al. 2003:223 [ref. 27212], Sparks & Dunlap 2004:7 [ref. 27928], Hoese & Bray 2006:1178 [ref. 29000], Shibata et al. 2011:14 [ref. 31469]). •Valid as Photopectoralis aureus (Abe & Haneda 1972) -- (Chakrabarty et al. 2010:117 [ref. 31090], Abraham et al. 2011:10 [ref. 31311], Larson et al. 2013:128 [ref. 32988], Psomadakis et al. 2015:236 [ref. 34104], Psomadakis et al. 2020:442 [ref. 37272]). Current status: Valid as Photopectoralis aureus (Abe & Haneda 1972). Leiognathidae: Gazzinae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Myanmar and Indonesia east to Philippines. Habitat: marine.
