On p. 18 of Bloch's Ichthyologie, v. 6 [ref. 21381]. Gmelin's (1789:1232) use of this name refers to Bloch's account, even though Bloch is not cited. Lectotype selected by Fricke 1999:50 [ref. 24101] as the [specimen illustrated in] Pl. 186 in the original description [specimen not in existence]. This subspecies is known from the e.
