Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 87. Paratypes: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] (not researched). •Synonym of Coris gaimard (Quoy & Gaimard 1824), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Dor 1984:201 [ref. 29757], Randall 1986:692 [ref. 5706], Winterbottom et al. 1989:53 [ref. 13251], Goren & Dor 1994:54 [ref. 25356]). •Valid as Coris africana Smith 1957 -- (Randall et al. 1990:313 [ref. 15987], Randall 1995:274 [ref. 22896], Fricke 1999:406 [ref. 24106], Fricke & Durville 2021:34 [ref. 38902]). •Synonym of Coris cuvieri (Bennett 1831) -- (Randall 1999:25 [ref. 24043], Parenti & Randall 2000:15 [ref. 24943], Golani & Fricke 2018:124 [ref. 36273], Randall & Victor 2022:192 [ref. 39916]). Current status: Synonym of Coris cuvieri (Bennett 1831). Labridae. Habitat: marine.
