R.] in Lichtenstein 1844:227, 256 [Descriptiones animalium quae in itinere ad Maris Australis; ref. 17531] Brazil (original localities Otahaitee [Tahiti], Society Islands; Tanna Island [Vanuatu], Brazil). Lectotype: lost. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). Lichtenstein (editor, in footnote) treats as a synonym of "Raja narinan Bl. Schneid. p. 361." Lectotype selected by Kottelat 2013:30 [ref. 32989] as the specimen shown by Margrave 1648:175. •Synonym of Aetobatus ocellatus (Kuhl 1823) -- (White et al. 2010:146 [ref. 30856]). Current status: Synonym of Aetobatus ocellatus (Kuhl 1823). Aetobatidae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
