Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:31 [ref. 12291]. •Valid as Gnathopogon biwae (Jordan & Snyder 1900) -- (Kuroda 1953:275 [ref. 39545], Okada 1961:433 [ref. 6363]). •Valid as Squalidus biwae (Jordan & Snyder 1900) -- (Sawada in Masuda et al. 1984:56 [ref. 6441], Okamura & Machida 1987:104 [ref. 22279], Bănărescu 1992:316 [ref. 40251]). •Synonym of Squalidus chankaensis Dybowski 1872, but a valid subspecies -- (Kawanabe & Mizuno 1989:318 [ref. 25598], Sato 1995:51 [ref. 25531], Watanabe 1998:263 [ref. 23491], Sato et al. 1998:36 [ref. 24972], Nakabo 2000:271 [ref. 25086], Matsuura et al. 2000:125 [ref. 26000], Nakabo 2002:271 [ref. 26001]).
