Lectotype selected by Lima 2017:41 [ref. 35071]. •Questionably a synonym of Brycon devillei (Castelnau 1855) -- (Howes 1982:24, 32 [ref. 14201]). •Valid as Brycon insignis Steindachner 1877 -- (Lima & Costa 2000:157 [ref. 24439], Lima in Reis et al. 2003:176 [ref. 27061], Lima 2017:36 [ref. 35071], Rodrigues et al. 2021:147 [ref. 38829]). Current status: Valid as Brycon insignis Steindachner 1877. Bryconidae: Bryconinae. Distribution: South America: ParaĆ­ba do Sul River basin and coastal drainages (Rio de Janeiro), Rio Itabopoana (Espiritu Santo, Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
